[學術演講]A Neurocomputational Theory of Self-Awareness (12/15)
學術演講:A Neurocomputational Theory of Self-Awareness (12/15)

Abstract: According to Bud Craig, activity in the anterior insula is the substrate of a basic bodily/affective form of self awareness. According to Lisa Feldman Barret, another eminent neuroscientist who works on bodily self awareness and emotion, the insula is not a substrate of self awareness. Since the evidence (lesion and imaging studies, clinical cases) is not in dispute and there is consensus about the neuroanatomy, how can disagreement be so sharp?
This paper diagnoses and resolves the dispute. En route we consider the relationship between philosophical and neuroscientific explanations of self awareness and argue that ultimately the right way to approach these questions is via a neurocomputational theory. We outline that theory and its implications for a range of disciplines: philosophy, psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience.Test cases are provided by the multidisciplinary explanation of disorders of pain suffering and trauma.
